Finished steel walls and plantings begin!
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks! The garden is truly coming together as we move into the final stages of construction, just as fall begins to settle in. Here’s where things stand:
Steel Walls
All the steel retaining walls are now complete, forming the structural backbone of the garden. Among these features is a small steel bridge connecting two garden beds, designed to evoke the feeling of a mountain stream. The steelwork looks fantastic—its strong, sculptural presence has created a dynamic, volumetric space that can accommodate play, gathering, and quiet moments alike. It’s been so rewarding to see this vision take shape.
Plantings
We’ve started installing plantings in the central garden bed and the adjacent western bed. These arrangements complement the carefully placed rock and cobble features, which suggest the movement of a meandering stream and will soon be joined by the hexagonal stepping stones. The plant palette includes a variety of native species along with others selected to thrive in our local environment and support pollinators. The beds are already looking beautiful, and we’re eager to watch them mature and fill in over time. Additionally, we planted the trees between the garden and the bike path—already providing a sense of enclosure, privacy, and seasonal color.
Turf
The site is fully prepped for the micro-clover turf, which will be hydroseeded this week. We’re hoping for favorable weather so these resilient little seeds can establish before winter. Micro-clover is a fantastic addition: it stays lush and green with minimal water and maintenance, fixes nitrogen in the soil, and offers a soft, durable surface that handles foot traffic beautifully.
Up Next
The plasma-cut steel for the motif screen has arrived, and we’ll begin welding it together this week. This feature marks the final steelwork for the project, and we’re excited to assemble this artistic element—it will bring a distinctive character and sense of identity to the space. We’ll also begin work on the remaining garden beds as the project nears completion. We can’t wait to share what’s next!
